Megan Murphy
Megan graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with degrees in Global Studies & Public Policy. During her time as a student, she founded a mutual aid pantry and was active in labor organizing and disability justice movements. As a co-founder, she brings experience as a nonprofit operations manager, a farmworker, and a community organizer. In her free time, Megan spends time with her sweet dog Pacha, and bakes delicious treats with local, fresh ingredients.

Dylan Emory
Born and raised in the foothills region, Dylan has dedicated his time to community organizing, supporting local mutual aid efforts and activism. He served as Vice President of Shelby Pride, organizing resources and events for the rural queer community. As a co-founder, he brings his passion for sustainable agriculture and his experience incorporating Shelby Pride as a nonprofit organization. In his free time, he works in his garden, growing native plants, food, and tending to his chickens

Wren Morgan
Wren is passionate about community health, including equitable access to food, safe housing, and reproductive justice. She has extensive experience providing direct support and resources for people seeking housing and food assistance in her work at the Community Empowerment Fund and previous work with Durham Housing Authority. Wren also serves as a doula in addition to her nonprofit work. Her support of Broad River Community Market reflects her dedication to building healthy, empowered communities here in North Carolina.

Elizabeth Wehmueller
Liz is passionate about community and food and loves bringing people together through shared meals. She works at Old North Farm in Shelby, where her interest in sustainable farming and local food systems has grown. Liz is excited to be a part of Broad River Community Market, a mission-driven organization that reflects her belief that everyone deserves a seat at the table. She is proud to contribute to their efforts in building a stronger, more connected community.

Michelle Emory
Michelle has worked in Local Government for twelve years. She is a Finance Director for a municipality. She served her community as a Town Clerk for seven years. Community work is something she is passionate about and she enjoys helping others.

Becky Love is a family physician and economist working to make our lives together better. She enjoys music, art, and the splendors of the natural world.

Cleveland County native, graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Johnson & Wales University, Senior Manager of the Foothills Farmers' Market, and mom to Ryan Jr., Carter, and Naomi.
Chef, food activist, and entrepreneur who believes food is more than a meal — it’s connection, care, culture, and community. Passionate about creating spaces that make people feel seen, nourished, and supported in all walks of life while using food and community work to bring people together and create meaningful impact.

Kaly Perez
Board Member
Kaly is an Appalachian native born and raised in North Carolina. She is currently a Forensic Social Worker working with underserved populations in rural communities. She has a Bachelors and Master in Social Work from Florida State University. Currently she is obtaining her PhD from Tulane University and volunteers with the local Mutual Aid and serves as Vice President of Shelby Pride. She is passionate about community and is excited about serving BRCM in their mission to combat food deserts in Cleveland County.
Scout Denning
Growing up amidst farms in rural NC led Scout to pursue her studies in sustainable agriculture and rural livelihood strategy at Appalachian State University. Her focus is on the relationship between land, food and community. Broad River Community Market has proven to be an effective bridge between all of these factors. She is currently managing Newgrass Brewing Company and building a small regenerative farm called Jupiter's Pantry. She hopes to facilitate connections between these entities to expand the local food web within our county, and improve access to fresh ingredients for all.

Heather Tullos
Heather is a local community organizer, activist, and rescue dog enthusiast. She has lived in (and loved) Cleveland County since 2008, and thrives on connecting people and community in creative ways. With a background that includes digital marketing, entrepreneurship, many (many!) years in the restaurant industry, and advertising technology, she’s hoping to leverage these skills in a way that will support and multiply the positive impacts of Broad River Community Market.
